Description
The origin of Masland Madur or Mat of West Bengal dates back to the Muslim period, when ‘Masland’ mats of superfine variety with fine cotton as weft were produced under royal patronage. Mats were collected as revenue of the Jaigirdari system. Villagers process the grass reed from local marshy land and weave it with cotton weft and give shape to these beautiful mats with intricate design, dyed in natural colours. Entire families are involved in the process while women normally do the fine weaving. It’s one of the oldest handicrafts of Bengal which is eco-friendly, durable and wonderfully hand crafted.
Bring home this rare, traditional, hand woven & eco-friendly Masland Madur (Mat). Ideal for floor coverings, home décor or wall hanging.
